Do Leicester’s Article 4 directions affect solar panels?
They can affect the roof work that goes with them. Leicester City Council has Article 4 directions made in 2014 and 2022 covering large parts of the city, and these can require permission for re-roofing or changes to chimneys and ridge tiles. Solar panels aren’t named on the council’s summary page, so if your home is in one of the city’s 25 conservation areas, such as Stoneygate, South Highfields, New Walk or Knighton Village, check the interactive map or ask the planning team before booking an install.
Can I still get the Warm Homes grant for solar in Leicester?
Not straight away. Leicester’s Warm Homes: Local Grant, delivered with Sustainable Building Services UK, covers solar panels for owner-occupiers and private renters with an EPC of D to G and a household income up to £36,000.
